Infamous Stringdusters, Rockygrass, 7/28/17  (John Lehndorff)

By JOHN LEHNDORFF (2:30 p.m., July 29, 2017 Lyons CO) First there was a reverent celebration of bluegrass’ seminal band, Flatt & Scruggs, in the form of Jerry Douglas and the Earls of Leicester. It was followed Friday night at the 2017 Rockygrass Festival by tour de force envelope-pushing demonstration of bluegrass’ future, the thoroughly electrified and electrifying Infamous Stringdusters who raged through a ear-grabbing set complete with light show and fog machine. The Earls and the Dusters are each tightly woven ensembles with tiptop technical skills and tremendous passion whether they were playing “Rollin’ in My Sweet Baby’s Arms” or Marvin Gay’s What’s Goin’ On.”
