According to NPD’s CREST® service, which continually tracks consumer usage of commercial and non-commercial foodservice, reports that total servings of burgers in 2009 were 9.3 billion, an increase of 800,000 servings since 2005. Six out of ten burgers move out of quick service restaurants.

Virginia’s Copper Fox Distillery is selling kits that let you barrel-age whiskey and rye at home. The kit includes a charred American white-oak barrel that’s big enough to hold about two liters of your choice of vodkas or brandies. Seal the contents inside the barrel with a cork and wait from 6 months to 25 years. Expect the barrel to slowly impart a smoky, spicy aroma.
