U.S. Food, Dining and Beverage Trends 2010 – 4

THE NEWS: The Chicago Sun-Times reports that The Melt Bar & Grilled eatery near Cleveland is offering a 25 percent discount FOR LIFE to customers who get a tattoo of a grilled cheese sandwich needled permanently into a body part.
WHAT IT MEANS: We know that the restaurant business is a little – make that extremely – tough right now, but trading grilled cheese sandwiches for tatoos strikes me as desperation on the part of the restaurant and the customer. Only in this context would turning your car into a mobile billboard for a sandwich outlet or standing on the corner in a pickle costume seem like a saner choice.
